Niyyah & Preparation: Starting Your Umrah Right
Why a sincere intention is the foundation of an accepted Umrah, and how to prepare your heart, family and finances before you depart.
The Importance of Niyyah
Umrah begins long before you board the flight. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Actions are but by intentions." Before booking, before packing, sit quietly and renew your intention solely for the sake of Allah.
Practical Preparation
- Settle outstanding debts and disputes where possible.
- Ask forgiveness from family and friends.
- Learn the basic du'as for Tawaf, Sa'i and entering the Haram.
- Pack light — comfort matters more than choice.
Spiritual Readiness
Begin increasing your daily Qur'an recitation and dhikr in the weeks before travel. Your tongue should already be moist with the remembrance of Allah by the time you reach Makkah.
