Ihram: Rules, Restrictions & How to Wear It

Entering Ihram
Ihram is both a state and a garment. You enter it at the designated Miqat with the intention for Umrah and by reciting the Talbiyah.
What Is Forbidden in Ihram
- Cutting hair or nails
- Using perfumed products
- Sexual relations and proposals of marriage
- Hunting or harming animals
- Covering the head (for men) or face (for women)
How to Wear the Ihram (Men)
The two unsewn white cloths — izar (lower) and rida (upper) — should be wrapped securely. Practice at home before you travel.
